The the the the standard the only the best advice was general advice. Right, okay, but to summarize: general advice, which is great, was what set them apart relative to other firms? It sounds like they took the time to understand your business, up front. There was a lot of Discovery involved and an attempt to understand what was needed, and then they stayed in touch throughout. That’s unusual, right? That’s not normal, really?
Well, it was for us because we really needed it. I was doing a lot of things myself, and they certainly helped take that load off.
And going back to it, you mentioned the flexibility of the platform. Is that something that you found because you and some of the other members of the leadership team wanted different things? Can you give me examples of how that sort of played out in your decision making?
Yes, very much. Some of our employees wanted a very “set and forget” kind of investment experience. Other people wanted a very engaged kind of experience, where they went in and selected exactly what was in their portfolio.
So high specificity vs very low.
Yes. And there was a lot of information for either user. It served people with different levels of sophistication. Also, that digital experience is so clear. It’s accessible in a way that, from my vantage point as a leader to the employees, it was really professional looking. It reflects well on the benefit that we’re providing them if they can clearly see where their money is, how it’s being invested and that user interface is clean. I definitely enjoyed that part.
Did that reduce administrative questions because they can solve it through the user interface?
Yes, absolutely. It was definitely a reduction in common administrative questions relative to the plan that we moved from.
Got it. Now what type of individual would you say then is best suited for this? It sounds like we talked a clear UI, great customer service, flexible for different types of investment experience. You’re small to mid sized. Is that the pocket?
We range between 20 to 50 employees, which I think is a great size for it. For a company our size, we’re still looking to be very nimble and provide benefits that are as good as any major corporation. But we aren’t a corporation. We don’t have an HR department of 20 people. So having a platform that can kind of stand in as some of that administrative support is really great for a company our size.
What are some considerations to take into account before buying the software?
I felt like this was a decision that our CFO and our COO had the most and best input on. Having a clear idea of what our expectations were from those perspectives on the onset; like how are they gonna integrate with our payroll? It turned out they did and they made it easy. But going in, we and our partners had questions. I think the administrative piece and how much do we want to put on our team versus how much do we want them to do was an initial question, and they answered that very well.
Looking back on the process of making that decision, is there anything you would change or do differently?
There was so much discovery. I mean, we really took our time to choose a provider we liked, so there isn’t much. I was in those calls and it were relatively short, maybe 30 minutes to talk about our specific needs. One of the things that I thought was very helpful early on was that they provided multiple options. So it wasn’t like we just had one plan or we have to choose this specific version of their tool. They looked at our user base, what we said we were looking for and provided us with a range of options of where we could start and then how we could grow together. I felt we went with that path and started small and then grew the plan as our company grew. That was actually perfect.
Final question. On a scale of 0 to 10, how likely are you to recommend it to a friend or colleague?
I’d definitely give it a 10. We have been really happy and our employees seem very satisfied as well.
Good. That’s probably the best metric of all. Thank you very much, David.
Thank you. Have a great day.
You too.
Buy Vestwell See More Reviews Read Our Full Vestwell Retirement Review The transcript has been edited for clartiy. [short_pricing] => Vestwell offers flexible subscription plans starting at $9/month.
