Tresorit, founded in Switzerland, is a cloud storage provider that prioritizes security and ease of use for a mobile or desktop client. It remains on your PCs and mobile devices, syncing data between them and the cloud and allowing you to share data with others easily. Similar to services like Dropbox as well as SugarSync, but with a more streamlined UI and a focus on security for your data (including full end-to-end encryption; see below for details).
Tresorit’s encryption is end-to-end, meaning that both the data itself and any accompanying metadata are never sent in an unencrypted interface. Tresorit clients further secure their files by applying a Message Authentication Code (MAC) to the data before sharing it, and this MAC is stored only by the user and the recipients of the file’s sharing.
No one, not even Tresorit employees, will be able to decrypt your data without your personal decryption key. The benefit of this ‘blind’ or ‘no knowledge’ technique is that neither criminals nor law enforcement will be able to read your information, but the drawback is that if you lose the key, you will never get it back.
